What Is That Grief Shit
Apr 22, 2025Let’s just say it like it is:
Grief is not just about death.
It’s not just about crying.
And it sure as hell isn’t just about being “sad.”
Grief is a full-body, soul-rattling experience that takes over your nervous system, your appetite, your sleep, your breath — your entire life.
And the worst part? Nobody told you it would feel like this.
This is what I call “Grieve That Shit.”
It’s the shit people say to you — like “Be strong” or “They’re in a better place.”
It’s the silence when people stop checking in.
It’s the pressure to move on when you’re still shattered.
But it’s also something else.
It’s the heartbreaking moment you realize... you were never taught how to grieve.
And you only learn that after the loss.
Your grief might look like crying — but it might also look like rage, numbness, brain fog, binge-watching, overeating, undereating, or not being able to breathe at 2 AM.
It might show up after the death of a parent.
Or the end of a marriage.
Or a health diagnosis.
Or the day your child moves out and you don’t recognize who you are anymore.
It’s all grief.
